How Did The She.E.O. Academy Come About?

Hi! I’m Heather, Founder of The Small Business Mom & The She.E.O. Academy.
 
Back in 2008, I wasn’t “a founder.” I was a single mom of three, who had just found out that my child care was going to cost twice the amount of my rent. I knew that the only way I was going to be able to support my family was to make money working from home – even though I had NO IDEA where to start or what to do. 
 
So I opened up my laptop and started filtering through all the scams, MLMs and other nonsense until I stumbled upon an article about Virtual Assistants. I decided there and then that was what I was going to do. Over time, and after a LOT of trial and error, mistakes & mishaps, that scrappy beginning as a VA, morphed & turned into a successful marketing consulting business. 
It also created something else – a desire to help other women build businesses that fit their lives WITHOUT the mistakes & struggles I had – because in my daily life, over and over I kept seeing:
  • Moms and non-moms alike tired of trading all their time and energy for someone else’s schedule, paycheck, and priorities.
  • Families giving up one income so someone could stay home with the kids because childcare costs are too high.
  • Programs that were supposed to help you with your business but assumed that you had endless time, money, or support (spoiler: most of us don’t).
